Tips for Preparing and Serving Fresh Stone Crab

Home   Blog   Tips for Preparing and Serving Fresh Stone Crab

Like most other fish and seafood, stone crab is at its best when you serve it fresh. However, just eating it without any preparation or plan is a waste. That’s why you should try using these tips for preparing and serving fresh stone crab—so that you can get the best meal out of your Florida stone crab delivery when it comes in.

Steam It

One of the most popular methods of serving stone crab is to steam the claws. Using whatever method you prefer for steaming should work on the stone crab meat, warming and cooking it to perfection. Once it’s done cooking, many people add some butter and tang—usually with lime or mustard sauce—to the dish.

Sauté It

Another common cooking style for stone crab is to sauté it. You want to heat a pan or skillet on a stove with some butter. Once the butter is melted and the pan is hot, toss in the crab meat, allowing it to cook for a few minutes. People often accompany this kind of cooking with the same dressings as the steamed crab meat: butter and lime or mustard sauce.

Ice It

Now, most stone crab meat is sold already cooked, so a lot of these methods are simply about heating the meat back up. However, you can actually just eat cooked stone crab meat without heating it up first. People usually do this by serving the meat on crushed ice with some lemon or lime for flavor.

General Tips

Buying the correct amount of stone crab can be a bit misleading because the meat has a tendency to shrink as you cook it. In general, a 2.5-pound batch of crab meat will only produce about a pound of meat to eat.

Now, this isn’t an all-inclusive list of every way you can eat stone crabs or how to prepare them. There are also other ways of cooking and serving crab meat, such as oven-baking or grilling, so be on the lookout for recipes you prefer. These are just some tips for preparing and serving fresh stone crab to give you some ideas for great meals. Don’t be afraid to experiment and try out new things!
